Huge congratulations to Armel Le Cléac’h, winner of the Vendee Globe solo round the world yacht race after crossing the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne at 15:37 GMT after 74 days, three hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds at sea.
Our Skipper, Charles Caudrelier, shares his thoughts on Armel’s success:
“Hearty congratulations Armel! It’s a massive result, the perfect victory! Armel has style and he won the Vendée Globe in his own way, with a great deal of intelligence and control, whilst preserving his boat and sailing his famous tight trajectories – always so fine and efficient.”
He added: “Right now, one image springs to mind. We raced in our first solo race together over twenty years ago. It was the Solo Le Télégramme on the Figaro circuit. At the time, we didn’t have GPS and the pair of us came out of the fog in the middle of the rocks. That was the early days for us and you knew back then that he was someone you could count on! At the time, the Vendée Globe was all we talked about!”
