With 212 days to go until the start of the Volvo Ocean Race – and after over 30,000 man hours of construction – the 8th boat in the fleet is ready to be transported to the Boatyard in Lisbon, Portugal, for its finishing touches.
The new-build Volvo Ocean 65, which will be raced by team AkzoNobel in 2017-18, has been wrapped and will be loaded onto a Volvo Truck for the 1,400+ mile journey. The tricky logistics are being handled by GAC Pindar.
It’s a major milestone for Persico Marine, which has been tasked with building a One Design boat to the exact same specification as the seven constructed especially for the 2014-15 edition.
The next step? When the boat reaches Lisbon, the Boatyard team will brand it in its new colours, before a handover to the team in May.
